Medicine Buddha Healing Ceremony with the Venerable Lama Konchok Sonam (Tibet)

  • Golden Drum 97 Green St. G1 Brooklyn, NY, 11222 Unites States of America (map)

Tadyatha Om Bhekhandze Bhekhandze Maha Bhekhandze Radza Samudgate Soha

(Invocation to the Medicine Buddha, asking for purification from suffering, illness, and the attainment of good health and enlightenment.)

The Medicine Buddha (known as Bhekhandze in the Tibetan tradition) is associated with healing and the dispelling of pain, sickness and illusion. This being, mentioned in texts dating back to at least the 7th century, is said to have achieved Buddhahood through extensive practices of purification and meditation.

Join us for a special healing ceremony with the Venerable Lama Konchok Sonam (Tibet), who will be sharing teachings, practices and medicine from the Tibetan tradition, including a specially formulated ‘blessing pill’ for the purpose of healing all sickness.

The Tibetan medical system is profound and complex, involving herbal remedies, somatic techniques, spiritual healing methods such as mantra recitation, medical astrology, meditation methods and more. This evening will be a rare and special opportunity to connect directly with healing and blessing of the Tibetan tradition.

ABOUT OUR HONORED GUEST:

Venerable Lama Konchok Sonam is the Spiritual Director of the Drikung Meditation Center in Arlington, MA. A highly trained monk of the Drikung Kagyu Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, Ven. Konchok Sonam is expert in both the theoretical and practical aspects of training the mind through meditation and Vajrayana methods for awakening.

Ven. Lama Konchok Sonam endured oppressive political and religious persecution, imprisonment, and a harrowing escape across the Himalayas, leaving his beloved Tibet and everything he knew and loved behind in order to achieve religious freedom. He realized his dream in 2001, when he arrived in the U.S.A.

In 2003 he was appointed Spiritual Director of the Drikung Meditation Center in MA.

In the fall of 2005, Ven. Konchok Sonam received the vision to create an emanation replica of the sacred Jowo Rinpoche Statue to benefit his new country and the Tibetan community in exile.

He envisioned not only creation of an emanation replica of the sacred Jowo Rinpoche statue, but also creation of a U.S. Jokhang Temple – thus bringing the blessings of the Buddha Shakyamuni and countless other past enlightened masters from the India, Nepal, and Tibet, to the United States.

Among the Medicine Buddha’s compassionate vows are these:

“I vow that in a future life, when I have attained Supreme Enlightenment, my body, inside and out, will radiate far and wide the clarity and flawless purity of lapis lazuli. This body will be adorned with superlative virtues and dwell peacefully in the midst of a web of light more magnificent than the sun or moon. The light will awaken the minds of all beings dwelling in darkness, enabling them to engage in their pursuits according to their wishes.

“I vow that in a future life, when I have attained Supreme Enlightenment, sentient beings afflicted with various illnesses, with no one to help them, nowhere to turn, no physicians, no medicine, no family, no home – who are destitute and miserable – will, as soon as my name passes through their ears, be relieved of all their illnesses. With mind and body peaceful and contented, they will enjoy home, family and property in abundance and eventually realize Unsurpassed Supreme Enlightenment.”
