Testimonial: Raquy Danziger taught me illumination art. It's painting but she took it for me to another level. Raquy took me and showed me a museum of Illumination art, art school, mosques, and many other places which I would never find by myself - so much beauty and inspiration. I could even visit Raquy's apartment which is full of her paintings! She inspired me deeply with her paintings and lifestyle as well.
We had art books while painting so when I felt lost, I could get re-inspired by them or ask Raquy. She was very patient and generous with me so I could finish my first Illumination painting ever - under her good guidance. I enjoyed learning with Raquy in a peaceful place. I'm proud of what I learned and that I can share it further.
Requested donation: $70 which includes materials. No one turned away for lack of funds.
Raquy Danziger discovered Islamic style illumination painting while living in Istanbul. She immersed herself in the study of techniques to decorate sacred documents in gold. This intricate and meticulous process requires a deep understanding of the materials and techniques used by ancient artisans.
For over 5 years Raquy trained under master illuminists. Through the guidance of her master teachers, Raquy has been able to bring these ancient techniques to life in her own artwork. The themes of Raquy’s paintings include henna hands, camels, demons, dragons, Ottoman characters, biblical characters, puppets, geometrical shapes, musical instruments, medallions, music, maps, Jaffa, Jerusalem and Istanbul.
One of the most fascinating aspects of Raquy's work is her creation of illuminated music manuscripts. Inspired by the style typically used for text manuscripts, these paintings showcase excerpts from Raquy’s own melodic compositions, as well as traditional music. thus organically combining her two beloved art forms.
